Digital vs Data-Driven

A note on being Digital vs being Data-Driven:

Digital: The company has updated/transformed it’s processes, products and services using digital platforms and tools. As a digital company they provide their services more efficiently but not necessarily more effectively as they can be equally unaware of their customers intentions, preferences and needs as before.

Data-Driven: The company uses digital products and services to collect data about their customers. They analyse this data to understand customers intentions, preferences and needs and they use these insights to provide services that are more effective.

Doing things right (being efficient) saves you money. Doing the right things (being effective) makes you competitive. Digital and Data are interrelated, but for many companies Digital came first and they are still figuring out the full meaning and potential of Data.

Being digital is just a start.
